Parents gathered in Primary Kanaan Tangerang on Friday, November 8th, 2024, for an enlightening seminar volume 2 on emotional regulation held at the Primary Kanaan Tangerang. The event, aimed at helping parents develop better emotional intelligence and create stronger connections with their children, was part of the school’s ongoing efforts to support families in fostering healthier emotional environments at home.

Themed “How to Regulate Emotions”, the seminar featured renowned emotional intelligence coach, Mrs. Yulia Andres. Known for her expertise in children development, Mrs. Andres led the session with warmth, wisdom, and a focus on actionable techniques that parents could immediately apply in their daily lives.

From the moment the seminar began, it was clear that this was no ordinary parenting workshop. Mrs. Andres opened the session by emphasizing the importance of understanding and regulating emotions, not only in children but also in adults. “Emotions are part of us all,” she stated. “The key is not to suppress them, but to manage and express them in healthy ways.”

Throughout the seminar, Mrs. Andres provided the parents with a variety of practical tools to help them navigate emotional challenges both in themselves and in their children. One of the highlights was the “Pause Technique”, a strategy designed to help parents take a moment to pause and reflect before reacting to emotionally charged situations. Mrs. Andres explained that this brief pause could prevent impulsive reactions and foster a more thoughtful, measured response to difficult emotions.

Another popular activity was the “Emotion Wheel”, where participants spun a colorful wheel filled with different emotions like anger, sadness, joy, and frustration. They were encouraged to share personal experiences of when they felt those emotions and discuss how they could better manage those feelings in future situations.

A key takeaway from the seminar was the idea that emotional regulation is not just about controlling emotions but creating an environment where both parents and children can express themselves freely and with understanding. Mrs. Andres stressed the importance of modeling emotional regulation for children. “Children learn by observing the adults around them. If you show them how to calmly express your emotions, they will be more likely to do the same,” she explained.

Several parents in attendance shared their experiences and challenges with emotional regulation at home, highlighting the real-world impact of the seminar.

The event was met with enthusiasm and appreciation, as parents left the seminar feeling more confident in their ability to handle their emotions and better support their children through difficult moments. Many parents expressed gratitude for the opportunity to learn from an expert in the field and noted how valuable the session was for strengthening family dynamics.

Mrs. Andres concluded the seminar by encouraging parents to continue practicing the techniques they had learned and to be patient with themselves as they developed their emotional regulation skills.

The seminar was part of a series of parent-focused events at Kanaan Tangerang, which aims to promote holistic development and emotional well-being within the school community. As one of the largest and most impactful workshops hosted by the school, this seminar demonstrated the institution’s commitment to supporting not just students, but their families, in fostering positive mental health and emotional resilience.

The upcoming session will be about “Active Listening” where parents will learn how to listen their children’s story enthusiastically. Mrs. Andres told the audience that in the next session they will have a practice session more than just listening to theory.
